Taka Dive Australia operates the BRAND NEW (2005) Expedition Yacht "TAKA" out of Cairns in North Queensland, Australia.
They operate liveaboard dive trips of 4 and 5 days to remote regions of the Northern Great Barrier Reef and the Coral Sea on their fully equipped Dive Vessel, the custom built Taka. Taka drops anchor at many different diving locations on all dive trips. They dive with the giant Potato Cod at the Cod Hole, feed the sharks in the crystal clear waters of Osprey Reef in the Coral Sea, and visit some truly amazing sites up and down the Ribbons Reef, which extend southward from Lizard Island. Isolated Coral heads (bommies) and huge Coral Gardens are all a part of expedition itineraries.
Swim with Minke Whale programs are available during June and July each year. Taka Dive passengers travelling during this time have the opportunity to contribute to the research of these whales. They team up with the James Cook University researchers, and record all sightings of these fantastic mammals. All passengers who have had interaction with the Minkes fill in a questionnaire, which helps to further research. Diving with these majestic creatures will be the most exciting and momentous experience of your life.
Taka is a large and comfortable dive vessel with air-conditioned cabins and plenty of room for your dive gear on the dive deck. The friendly and experienced dive crew will look after all your needs, and after a hard day’s diving the qualified chef’s culinary delights, prepared & served from a commercial grade galley, will satisfy your appetite.
Taka Dive Adventures operates 365 days per year. They depart on Tuesdays on a 4 day/3night trip to the Cod Hole and Northern Great Barrier Reef, and then again on Fridays for the 5day/4night trip to the Cod Hole and Coral Sea.
At 30m long (100ft), 8m wide, a draft of 3.8m, four decks and weighing in at 295 tonnes, TAKA certainly has the dimensions to qualify as a ship.
