Summer Diving
Summer is here at last! Christine and I have had 2 fantastic
weekends at Great Barrier Island recently, with good catches of
crayfish and scallops, and the odd snapper keeping us focused in
between dives. The scallops have been the best I've seen in a long
time, and complemented the chardonnay well!
SEAFANZ I have been
inspired to go along to a SEAFANZ underwater photographic club
hosted by Dive Centre and Colin Gans (www.seafanz.net New
members always welcome). We saw some amazing shots of whale sharks
in the Galapagos taken by Colin on a recent trip. Other members
were also showing recent images of the Poor Knight Islands, which
has got me thinking about running a photographic
Liveaboard weekend or 3 day trip in late March/early
April. If this is of interest to you, let us know as soon as possible.
The Poor Knights is truly a world class dive destination over
summer, so make the effort to go and enjoy NZ's premier dive location.
If you can't make it to the Poor Knights, be sure to dive in a Marine
Reserve this summer. Take the kids or grand kids along for a snorkel
too. It's great fun!

SPECIAL DIVE TRIPS FOR 2005 / 06
Don’t miss out!
Once you’ve been on a liveaboard dive trip you know what quality
diving and service is all about.
It is physically easier to do 4 liveaboard dives a day than
2 land based dives. Combine this with the high level of service,
great cuisine and the camaraderie of other divers and it’s
easy to see why divers just love liveaboard diving. It’s
truly the BEST way to dive.
We have 3 special charters for 2005 and you’re welcome
to join us on these. Or you may prefer other scheduled departures-
contact us for details.
Solomon Islands
“M.V.Bilikiki”.
28 July/05 August. Cost approximately $4295 per person.

The Good News: The NZD is at an
all time high over the USD. This means it's 25% cheaper than 12
months ago to do some liveaboard dive trips. The NZD is also strong
against most Pacific currencies, making their products a bit cheaper
as well.
The Bad News : As the American divers
find it's 25% more expensive to do their liveaboard trips and stay
at 5 Star Resorts, they will look to save $$ and will travel to
the cheaper South Pacific – into our dive playground. So we
expect to see our favourite resorts filling up early.

EXPLORATION TRIP TO MICRONESIA
Do you want to be among the first in NZ to dive Jaluit? (pronounced
Gell o wit)
”Where”, do I hear you say, “is Jaluit?” Well, head due north
from NZ as far as the equator and hang right a little bit! That's
right – the Marshall Islands.
Recently we've been talking with Rongelap Expeditions, who have
been running some land based diving on Majuro in the Marshall
Islands. Last year they purchased a liveaboard vessel and are
now running dive trips to Jaluit and Rongelap atolls.
I have dived a lot of islands in Micronesia and have always
been impressed at the quality of diving. Our research shows that
Jaluit will also offer great big fish diving plus some WW11 wrecks
and planes.
Christine and I are planning a reconnaissance trip to check
it out. You're more than welcome to join us, and be among the
first to dive this area.
There are now some great flight connections with Air Nauru via
Brisbane and a fantastic introductory price. Details and costs
still need to be finalised at this stage, but here are the basic
details:
- Depart Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch 01 May 2005 to
Brisbane and Micronesia
- Board the boat 02 May
- 9 nights on board cabin accommodation
- 8 days unlimited diving
- All meals on board
- Return to NZ 14 May 2005
- Cost to be confirmed – approximately $3900 + taxes and Visa
(US$25)
