PNG is home to some of the world's most spectacular dive sites. There are a number of wrecks from W.W.II which are surrounded by amazing coral gardens and colourful tropical fish and what better way to explore these than from the luxury of the liveaboard boat MV Chertan.
MV Chertan is based in Milne Bay in the south east of PNG, and has a sense of isolation and tranquillity, a time-free zone separate from the rest of the world. Milne Bay is an area that is considered one of the last untouched dive destinations in the world and as far as exotic marine life goes, is the most exciting in PNG and some would say the world. It is special not only for the extraordinary riches of its classic tropical reefs which are packed with all the usual creatures that divers would expect to find but also for all the uncommon marine animals, including one of the most fantastic scorpionfish in the world, the Rhinopia Aphanes.
MV Chertan is 19 metres (60 foot) in length and 6.5 metres (21 foot) in width. She is beautifully fitted out in local timbers and has six two berth cabins with lots of storage space. The boat is also air conditioned. There are three compressors onboard along with 5 storage banks and the latest electronic equipment. For your listening and viewing pleasure the boat also features video and stereo systems. MV Chertan is a family run operation which offers a very professional and friendly service.
Dive sites visited by MV Chertan include the Engineer Group of islands and atolls, the Conflict Group and Dumoulin Island, which are all within an easy cruising distance of each other and are surrounded by magical coral reefs. There are often excellent dive sites in the lee of the islands and as a result the protected reefs found here are quite stunning.
