We hope you had a successful holiday, got in plenty of fishing time and caught heaps of fish.

Fishing

Well we are already in full swing helping clients plan their game or sport fishing and diving holidays for 2010 and beyond.

Why not make this year the year you escape winter and take advantage of some awesome, unspoiled waters and incredible fishing in the Tropical South Pacific?

Can’t you see it – days spent at sea or on land, casting out into an abundant sea and either cooking or having your catch cooked for you, then spending warm barmy nights dining alfresco and swapping your ‘big fish’ stories with everyone who will listen. Isn’t that the life!

Let us share some of our amazing experiences at some of the South Pacific’s most beautiful and abundant fishing destinations and help you plan an incredible mid-winter fishing holiday experience.

Great Sport Fishing – Munda, Solomon Islands

Long gone are the Head Hunting days of the locals, preferring instead to welcome you and show you some great fishing adventures.

marlin on the lineThe Solomon Islands offer many options for the avid fisho, including big game, sport, reef, beach and estuary fishing. With little to no commercial fishing, the fish are plentiful and the action is great.

Choose from sheer drop-offs where you can troll for Spanish mackerel, Wahoo and monster dog-tooth tuna,

OR

cast for giant trevally, red bass and coral trout,

OR

chase gamefish such as Pacific sailfish, blue, black and striped marlin and yellow fin tuna,

OR

catch mangrove jack, estuary cods, brassy trevally and spot tail bass in quiet jungle rivers,

OR

fish right off the wharf in front of your accommodation or cast poppers into the outer breaking reef for giant trevally.

The fishing opportunities are endless, with a huge variety of sport and game fishing available from our recommended fishing locations.

Game and Sport Fishing in Vanuatu

Vanuatu FishingGame fishing used to be the sport of the rich - but fortunately those days have long gone. Game fishing and sport fishing are now available for everybody. And some of the best game and sport fishing grounds in the world are little more than a hop, step and jump away from our own shores, in one of the most beautiful settings in the world.

Vanuatu is home to at least six species of bill fish, broadbill sword fish and short-billed spearfish (however, these are quite rare), sailfish, plus striped, black and blue marlin which are common.  But probably the main reason the game fishermen and women head towards Vanuatu is to target the Indo-Pacific blue Marlin, the Mike Tyson of the fish world. The biggest, meanest and hardest fighter of this lineage!

In season, blue marlin congregate along the edge of a canyon known locally as “The Marlin Highway,” and it is quite common to release 4-5 fish per day. Most of the marlin caught in Vanuatu are blues ranging from 100-400kg, while doggies and sailfish can get near the 90kg mark.

But it’s not all game fishing. Sport fishing is becoming increasingly popular and the waters around Port Vila teem with both pelagic and demersal sporting species.

Vanuatu is also a great place for non-fishing partners and families with a variety of modern accommodation and restaurants of international standards.  While they are shopping, enjoying the wonderful food, playing or relaxing in the sun, you can spend the days out on the ocean in pursuit of the big one!

Best Kept Secret - Kadavu!

Hat trickFishing Fijis 4th largest island and biggest Reef – The Great Astrolabe Reef

Every winter during June, July and August, the waters boil with big eye tuna, sailfish and wahoo that make superb light tackle sport.

Fiji has the fourth largest barrier reef in the world - The Great Astrolabe barrier reef which is virtually unexplored and un-fished – where you can sport fish on the various sea mounts and bommies within the reef system on Penn International 30lb class rods and reels or, weather permitting, head out through one of the barrier reef passages and step up to Penn International 80lb.

We have also personally trialled and have available some great fishing charters as options. The experienced crew will have you fully geared up and ready to spend some exciting hours hunting the big tropical predators such as Wahoo, Spanish mackerel and barracuda that cruise the reef system from the comfort of your very own game fishing boat.

Hunting down Giant Trevally in Tonga

fishingThe island group of Vava’u in the north of Tonga is where fishing is at its best.  Fisho’s can troll Vava’u’s crystal clear waters for Blue, Black or Striped Marlin, Sailfish, Mahimahi, big Yellow Fin Tuna and Wahoo. Spear fish or cast jigs or poppers for predators like Blue Fin and Giant Trevally.

For anglers who want to specifically chase Giant Trevallys, you can’t miss casting for these tropical reef dwellers in Tonga.

The Giant Trevally are equally as powerful and are a favourite fish to target when in the islands. Whether throwing poppers at coral reefs, baits, or dropping metal jigs, the fishing for these tropical terrors is full-on adrenalin pumping stuff. Many have been humbled by these seemingly average fish.

Sound like you?  Plan your trip now and we will design a package that will ensure you of some of the most explosive fishing experiences of your life.

A Fishermans Philosophy

SmilingA sure way to get a bite on a slow day is:
Talk about changing spots
Prepare another rod while one is out
Lay your rod down unsecured
Go for a sandwich
Start to pull the boat anchor
Use the worst lure you own
Crack open your first beer
Crack open your last beer
Take notice of the chick on a passing boat, bank or beach
Watch others fishing
Start reeling in your lines at going home time
Give your fishing rod to a female companion or child to hold
When your landing net is out of reach
When you have cast your line over an obstruction
When your line has drifted into impossible weeds
When you turn to look at the sunrise or sunset
Decide that you need to take a leak
