Pricing and pro’s and con’s of a private home versus a hotel style property.

Price: In general, if you had say 2 families (4 adults and 4 kids), it would work out approximately the same cost to rent 2 x 2 bedroom hotel rooms with kitchens as it would for a 4 bedroom private holiday home of the same grade. It comes down to what best suits you and your group of family/friends.

Pro’s: A private holiday home is just that: someone else’s family home. They are larger than hotel rooms with kitchens, are more spacious, have better equipped kitchens, a separate dining area, a more relaxing lounge and often a second small lounge or den for the kids, complete with it’s own TV, satellite channels etc. They are often nestled in a quiet forested area of the Resort.

Con’s: Often the private holiday homes are further away from the main village with it’s shops, restaurants and bars. Generally they are no more than 5-10 minutes walk away. Most are situated close to lifts so have good ski in ski out access, while others are further away and necessitate 5 – 10 minutes of walking. Your consultant can help choose a home for you as close as possible to lifts and amenities as possible.

Unlike hotel rooms, private holiday homes are not cleaned and serviced daily. Depending on the resort, and grade of accommodation, they are generally serviced every 3-4 days.

Additional information

In addition to the basic amenities found in all private holiday homes, you’ll find many of them also have a private deck or balcony, a hot tub/spa pool, fireplace, ski lockers and lots of little extras the owners have left to make their guests feel at home: books, games, music, toys etc.

Most homes have a master bedroom with a walk in wardrobe and ensuite. Some will have an extra TV in the master bedroom as well. Depending on the size of the home, there can be 1-4 extra bedrooms and more bathrooms.

Many homes are in ski in/ ski out locations, some are closer to lifts than others, some require a bit of a walk to reach. Our consultants can help you choose a home in the best location for your requirements.

While all homes have phones, many have toll bars on them. Therefore we recommend you take your mobile phone with you, programmed with overseas roaming to stay in touch. Some have wireless internet access.

Hot tub: Not all private homes have hot tubs and BBQ. Those that do are often booked out first.

If a hot tub, BBQ, international phone or internet access or any other amenity is important to you, please let us know. We have an excellent relationship with home owners and can request whatever you need. Most additional amenities are available free of charge, but sometimes there may be a cost of up to $15 per day.

Groceries

Christmas in a Private Holiday Home

Private holiday homes are in very short supply over the Christmas holiday break, as the owners usually like to ski at this time. You will need to book one early (by June at the latest). Otherwise, a lack of options will mean you may have to settle for less, or pay more, than you intended.

If you are staying in a private holiday home over Christmas, ask your Dive Fish Snow Travel consultant to request Christmas theming and decoration for your home. For an additional cost, you can have a fully decorated Christmas tree, plus other Christmas decorations spread through the lounge, or the whole house if you wish. And your pre ordered grocery and turkey order can include special holiday foods and snacks. Let us know your budget and we’ll help you prepare for the festive season.
