Alta is a world renowned Ski Resort near Salt Lake City, Utah, offering deep powder, a variety of terrain, spectacular alpine scenery and great beginner and intermediate terrain. You’ll find everything there from gentle rolling slopes, wide open bowls, steep narrow chutes, powder skiing and tree covered slopes to groomed runs or mogul skiing.

Alta is one of the few remaining ski resorts in the world that prohibits snowboarders, so for skiers, that’s a great added bonus!

Dining / Restaurants

With 5 restaurants and cafes at mid mountain and 8 at the base, you’ll never be hungry. You’ll find everything you need from a quick coffee or snack to a hearty meal.

Shopping

With 2 ski retail shops at mid mountain and several more at the base, you’ll be able to find unique resort clothing, hats, toys, photos, vintage maps and photographs, ski gear, Wasatch range memorabilia, logo items and local artworks.

Other Activities

Cross Country & Nordic Skiing

Classic or skate skiing is available on the 5km groomed track. The Alta Ski Shop offers classic, skate, telemark and snowshoe rentals. Lessons are available at the Alf Engen Ski School.

Snowcat Skiing

Custom tours and scenic rides are available by Snowcat, allowing skiers to access back country areas not otherwise accessible. The specially adapted snowcat with heated cabin can get you to the top of Grizzly Gulch at an elevation of 10,500 feet quickly and in comfort. Your playground will then be 375 acres of incredible bowl skiing, dropping to an elevation of 9,000 feet.

Snowboarding

Snowboarding is not allowed at Alta: it is a skier's mountain.
Snowboarders are encouraged to go on Snowcat Tours

Grooming

Alta Ski Area has groomed runs off of every lift. There are also 5-15 km of groomed Nordic Track.  The groomed runs will depend on weather and snow conditions.
